Summer means one thing in Vegas, the World Series of Poker (WSOP). And while we are familiar with the big name poker players who will be the players looking for their first bracelet?
Matt Glantz
Considering Glantz is one of the best mixed-game players around it is surprising that he is still waiting for his first WSOP bracelet, despite having 25 cashes at WSOP events. He had a decent showing last year with good runs but ultimately missed out. However, you cannot ignore the Philadelphia native, he has $3,700,000 in live earnings and this time about the odds suggest that he will claim his first bracelet this time about.
Mike McDonald
McDonald has been on fire so far in 2014, winning $4.3million in the first four months of the year alone, which has seen the Canadian break the $10million mark in career earnings. Despite his brilliance on the tour McDonald has struggled at the WSOP with just a paltry $201,0 00 in earnings, after just eight cashes. But when you are on a hot streak like McDonald is you would fancy him to do some damage at the table this year.
Isaac Haxton
Haxton learnt his trade in online cash-games but has managed to transfer his online brilliance to live tables; thus far he has $8.3million in career tournament earnings. One of the sharpest minds on the poker circuit, Haxton has performed gallantly at the WSOP in the past, his 24 cashes have seen him take around $1.7million. Many in the world of poker see Haxton as the most talented player without a bracelet, whether he is still without one by fall remains to be seen.
Ole Schemion
The 21-year-old German prodigy is arguably the greatest young performer in tournament poker history. Since debuting on the European Poker Tour three years ago, he has gone onto win more than $5million, while this year he has won $1.3million. The Berlin born starlet is in contention to be named Card Player’s POY and you can expect him to mark his arrival at the WSOP with some fantastic poker plays.
Justin Bonomo
The 28-year-old has recovered brilliantly from the online poker cheating scandal that engulfed him a few years back. To date, he has $7.5million in tournament wins with $1.26million coming from the WSOP. With 25 cashes and twice runner-up in WSOP events, ignore Bonomo at your peril. Last year was less than stellar for Bonomo, with just two cashes, so you can expect him to be itching to put the record straight this time around.
Whether or not any of these pokers players claim a first bracelet isn’t exactly clear cut but considering the form they are in, especially Mike McDonald, you would expect at least one of them to break their duck.
